Neurodivergent-Affirming Counselling for Adults

meaningful life counselling

Understand yourself. Feel less overwhelmed. Create a life that feels more like your own.

Do you often feel overwhelmed, misunderstood or exhausted from trying to keep up with everything around you?

Perhaps you experience ADHD, rejection sensitivity, anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional overwhelm, burnout or difficulties in relationships.

You don’t have to work everything out on your own.

I’m Gen, a BACP-accredited counsellor offering compassionate, confidential online counselling for adults across the UK.

Together, we can explore what’s happening beneath the surface, make sense of your experiences and develop ways of coping that work for you — not simply what you feel you “should” be able to do.

Not sure whether counselling is right for you? We can have a short, informal conversation about what’s bringing you to therapy and whether I might be the right counsellor for you.

You may look as though you’re coping on the outside, while inside everything feels much harder than it appears.

You might:

  • Feel overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities, even when they seem simple to others
  • Overthink conversations and worry about how other people perceive you
  • Experience intense feelings when you feel rejected, criticised or misunderstood
  • Struggle with self-esteem or constantly question whether you’re “good enough”
  • Find it difficult to regulate strong emotions
  • Experience periods of exhaustion, burnout or emotional shutdown
  • Feel guilty when you can’t keep up with everything
  • Struggle with relationships, boundaries or fear of disappointing others
  • Feel different from the people around you without fully understanding why
  • Know what you want to do but find it incredibly difficult to get started
  • Spend a lot of time masking, people-pleasing or trying to appear as though everything is fine

Perhaps you’ve spent years believing that you simply need to try harder.

Counselling can offer a different perspective.

You don’t need to become a different person. Therapy can help you understand yourself with greater compassion and find ways of living that work with who you are.

ADHD-affirming therapy that starts with understanding

ADHD Counselling for Adults

Living with ADHD can affect much more than concentration and organisation.

It can influence how you experience emotions, relationships, work, self-esteem and everyday life.

You may have spent years being told that you’re lazy, too sensitive, disorganised, forgetful or simply “not trying hard enough”.

Perhaps you’ve developed strategies to hide your difficulties from other people — while privately feeling exhausted from trying to keep everything together.

Counselling can give you a space to understand your experiences without judgement.

We can explore areas such as:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Rejection sensitivity
  • Overwhelm and burnout
  • Procrastination and executive-function difficulties
  • Self-esteem and self-criticism
  • People-pleasing and perfectionism
  • Relationships and communication
  • Anxiety and low mood
  • Identity and masking
  • Life transitions and feeling “stuck”

My approach is collaborative and person-centred. Rather than expecting you to fit into a predetermined way of working, we explore what you need and what feels helpful for you.

Rejection Sensitivity & Emotional Overwhelm

Do small moments of criticism, rejection or misunderstanding sometimes feel much bigger than they seem to others?

You might find yourself replaying conversations, worrying that someone is upset with you, or feeling overwhelmed by the fear of disappointing others. These reactions can be intense, exhausting and difficult to switch off.

Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD) is a term commonly used to describe an intense emotional response to perceived rejection, criticism or failure, particularly in the context of ADHD.

You might experience:

  • intense feelings after criticism
  • fear of disappointing others
  • avoiding situations where you might fail
  • people-pleasing
  • difficulty letting go of perceived rejection
  • sudden emotional overwhelm
  • shame or self-criticism
  • withdrawing from relationships
  • constantly analysing what you said or did

These experiences can be exhausting.

Therapy can offer a safe space to understand your emotional responses, explore the patterns behind them and develop greater self-compassion and healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

How counselling can help

Counselling isn’t about giving you a list of things you should be doing differently.

It’s about creating a space where you can slow down, feel heard and begin to understand yourself more clearly.

Depending on what brings you to counselling, we might explore:

Understanding yourself

Making sense of your thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experiences, including the ways ADHD or neurodivergence may affect your everyday life.

Building self-esteem

Moving away from harsh self-criticism and developing a kinder, more accepting relationship with yourself.

Managing overwhelm

Understanding what contributes to emotional overload and finding healthier ways to respond when things become too much.

Relationships and boundaries

Exploring patterns in your relationships, communication, people-pleasing and difficulties saying no.

Anxiety and low mood

Understanding what may be contributing to anxiety, low mood or persistent feelings of being overwhelmed.

Burnout

Recognising the signs of emotional exhaustion and exploring what you need to recover and protect your wellbeing.

Life changes

Finding support when you’re facing a transition, loss, change of identity or simply feel that you have lost your sense of direction.

You don’t need to know exactly what you need help with before you start.

We can work that out together.

Meet Gen

A safe space to be yourself — without judgement

I’m Gen, a BACP-accredited counsellor offering online counselling to adults across the UK.

I believe that behind the difficulties we experience there is usually a story worth understanding.

You may have spent years adapting yourself to fit other people’s expectations, wondering why things that seem easy for others can feel so difficult for you.

My role isn’t to judge you, fix you or tell you how you should live. It’s to listen, understand and work alongside you.

I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about the things that may be difficult to share elsewhere.

Our sessions are collaborative. We work at your pace and focus on what matters to you.

Whether you’re struggling with ADHD, rejection sensitivity, anxiety, self-esteem, relationships, burnout or a period of change in your life, you don’t have to have everything figured out before you come to counselling.

You can simply start where you are.
